Between fen and mountains

Five metres below sea level

Today I had a mini blip meet with Nicoiseannie at Woodwalton and Holme fens, the lowest point in England at five metres below sea level according to my altimeter.  These fens are part of the Great fen of Cambridgeshire now being restored to its original condition as far as possible with vast areas of reedbeds and meres.  The Great fen was the largest lake in England before drainage and it was interesting to visit the Rothschild lodge, raised up and with flood levels marked on its stilts.  The wildlife was mostly notable by its absence but we did see nesting cormorants on Holme fen so the long lenses did get some use.
