new year, new city

D and I had a day out in Newcastle yesterday. We lived there for a while before moving to Scotland (almost 25 years ago today). This time we were guests of Dan, a Facing Africa surgeon, invited to talk about, and show photos of, our experiences with the charity. The venue was at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where we had both worked in the dim and distant past. Everything has changed there, apart from the original facade. In fact Newcastle has changed a lot as well. I don't remember there being a Chinatown before..that's the colourful street where I photographed these lanterns.

D left in the early afternoon to go to his yoga class in Dumfries, and i stayed on for a while to wander the city and take photos.
