Don't look Barack

If we do the next four (surely four as an absolute maximum...) years will depress us even more than they already seem like they're going to. An administration that screams intolerance and inappropriateness. Mind-bogglingly hypocritical appointments given the accusations that were levelled at the unsuccessful candidate about her future cabinet. Accusations that wouldn't have materialised.

I feel a gulf is developing between people who can sit in the Trump camp, being horrified when nationalist ideals are threatened and branding anyone with liberal tendencies, the ability to be politically correct and a desire for equality as a 'snowflake'. They think they are grounded in reality but their regressive agenda says otherwise. They lack information and the perspective to process it.

Their reality is narrower than those who know that Trump threatens social progression and that the words, tones and messages used and examples set by influential characters are of extreme importance.

It isn't more important that a candidate used private emails for state business than the fact there is a now successful candidate that mocks disabilities, other races and cannot articulate social issues with any kind of understanding or nuance whatsoever. It's because disingenuous media and campaigns purposefully focused on unimportant issues whilst deflecting howler after howler.

It isn't more relevant that the husband of a candidate had extra-marital affairs than the fact there is now a successful candidate who has been caught admitting to the sexual assault of women. It's because there has been an insidious misogyny at work.

It isn't more relatable that the candidate who could articulate matters of international diplomacy and policy with authority and knowledge lost to the now successful candidate who rambles incoherently and displays little intelligence or understanding. It's because he doesn't have the brain capacity or expertise to handle the role.

It isn't the hallmark of a great Republican leader to have flipflopped on abortion rights and criticised party followers so strongly over the years. It's because his supporters were manipulated into supporting his megalomania rather than any real desire to be a world leader.

Trump supporters who chant 'Make America Great Again' believe they have to suffer the cruellest things life can throw at them. They understand very little of the world.

I am generalising fairly crudely in this post. But the US, and therefore the world, is at a critical inexplicable juncture. Let's just keep our fingers crossed. My guess is that Trump is shitting himself like a petulant five year old, all the way to the inauguration lectern.

Transylvania is very nice for being slightly off grid. If anyone's interested.
