Desperately seeking

Thacka Nature Reserve

The weather reverted to the greyness we have got used to after the sunshine yesterday. A few snowflakes fell.

I visited another of the Cumbria Wildlife Trust's reserves today, a smaller one than yesterday. It comprises of a bit of spare scrubland on the outskirts of town, bounded by an industrial estate.

The beck that runs through it swells into a pond and the whole area is designed to contain 76,000 m³  in wet periods to prevent the town from flooding as the beck passes under Penrith.

I didn't do the full walk round the pond as my finger ends were getting cold, even in my gloves and my thumb ends are already cracked.
