Signs of Spring

It rained all night but the sun came out this morning, so we headed for Spring Lake. It was closed to cars but we walked down the road to find the lake within its shores except for a couple of spots where the inlet creek overflowed the path before flowing into the lake. This wouldn't have stopped Ozzie who was in his element, but we were not keen to ford the torrent. After the exhilaration of yesterday's march, it was nice to have the place almost to ourselves.

We hooked up with a few other labradors frolicking in a pond which is usually a grassy lawn. Large baying barks came from the top of the dam from a dog who presumably wasn't being allowed to join them.

Despite the above average amount of rain, gale force winds and frost that have been visited on us this month, signs of spring are beginning to appear...catkins on the willows by the lake, a mallard couple trying to decide whether to walk or swim across the lake in the middle of the path, and budding pussywillows. It is quite early even for this normally temperate climate, but surprising given the intensity of the weather.

When we got home from Flying Goat and Aztek Mochas, OilMan raced outside to try to finish a few garden chores before the rain started again, and I sat by the fire and watched ignored the endless football games on the television while I  try to finish knitting Dana's Christmas present before next Christmas rolls around....

It's raining again....
