On the look out

I think the heron may have arrived a bit early if it was hoping for frogs to eat. The ponds are still frozen, and today the weather was cold, and foggy, with not even the faintest glimmer of sunlight. Nevertheless, it perched on the top of one of our conifer trees for a long time, surveying it's realm, and making surreptitious flights down to the pond when it thought nobody was around. I eventually opened the back door to frighten it off, but I'm sure it will be back, just waiting for that first mild spring day when the frogs come out of hibernation.
