Labour of Love

Crocus cyprius is a tiny gem that is found in the Troodos mountains in Crete.  Not widely grown and on the red data list of species threatened in the wild, one of my objectives in growing it is to raise new plants in cultivation.  For many years I grew just a single clone that never increased or set seed.  A visit to a fellow enthusiast yielded a few corms from two other clones and since then by crossing the different clones, I have been able to obtain seed most years.  It takes around four years for the seedlings to reach flowering size, these were sown in autumn 2012.

Friday Philosophy:
Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.
