A river runs through the middle of the town...

...and actually goes on to form the border between France and Switzerland before emptying into Lake Geneva.
Divonne was only linked up to the French national electricity grid in the 1950's, before this the river had a number of small hydro generators along its length, which provided power for the town.
The biggest of these was installed at the end of the 1800's and sent its power to the casino and main hotels. This centre has recently been restored and now is open to the public.
Just thought you might like to know all this....hope I was right!
