Bowood 2017 #1 (Saturday February 4th 2017)

I haven't renewed my annual pass at Bowood for this year so any blips on the Estate in 2017 will probably be taken from public footpaths, and this view is likely to recur. It was quite sunny after lunch when I set off but had clouded over. It takes an hour to drive, park, change and walk down the path to the Palladian bridge where the actual lakeside walk begins. I walked along it as far as this view of the wider lake and Bowood House in the distance.
On the way there I saw several pheasants and a calling buzzard flew low overhead. A rear view of pink and black bird revealed itself as a jay when it made its cry. I had four separate sightings of herons, one red kite and a second buzzard on the walk back.

Lozarhythm of the Day:
The Who - Anyway Anyhow Anywhere (recorded 13-14 April 1965, IBC Studios, London)
It's hard to imagine anything as free and wild even getting made these days, let alone getting to number one in the charts as this did in May 1965. It was their second single and was the first time feedback had been incorporated into a guitar solo. Three microphones were used to capture the natural room reverb and signal delays. One of these was on the amp, one some feet away and one at the far end of the studio. Keith Moon's drums were also surrounded with mikes. The piano on the single was played by Nicky Hopkins.
This was recorded during the sessions for the My Generation album but in those days singles and album tracks were kept largely separate to give buyers value for money. I played this while I was working my way through the 5 CD expanded box set of the album, though I used to own and play the vinyl single at the time.
