Southern Star

Kalk Bay is just along the coast from us, and this morning we spent a few hours down by the harbour. It’s a bustling place, the oldest fishing harbour in the country, and is full of activity, as fishing boats come and go, fish is landed and stored in ice, fish is prepared and sold or not prepared and still sold.

And always hanging around, in and out of the water, are a few seals. They are quite happy to pose for photographs, but really they are on the lookout for a chance to get into the fish preparation section and grab what they can before getting turned out. (see extra)
 
We then ate at Kalky’s, the red roof of which you can see in the picture. Benches and tables right on the harbour edge, plastic cutlery, cash only, lots of rules (see extra). . . . . . and great fish and chips. (Presumably, as there was no such sign on the wall of the slightly upmarket Cape Point restaurant we ate at yesterday, it was okay to do any of these things!)
  
One more day and it is going to be so exciting! (Now am I being ironic or not?  Time will tell.)
