Bulkeley Hill Railway

I went out to find a geocache this afternoon on Bulkeley Hill. It was located near the top of Bulkeley Hill railway which featured on Julia Bradbury's programme about walking the Sandstone Trail a couple of weeks ago.

I thought she said it was associated with copper mining in the area although I could have been mistaken and perhaps it is just what I thought it was used for. A quick search of the internet shows that it is a hauled tramway used in the construction of a reservoir at the top of Bulkeley Hill. This feeds a large storage reservoir at Audley which in turn feeds the Potteries.

The gradient is around 45 degrees in places and Julia Bradbury spoke to members of the local running club who use it for training.
