As error messages go, this is a quite typical example.  It's useful as "That thing you were trying to do didn't work."  It tells me very little I didn't already know and gives me absolutely no idea about what I have to do to fix it.

After a couple hours of investigating I asked an expert, who suggested I read the manual.  "Gosh, what a good idea" I said before I very politely explained that I HAD read the aforementioned manual and it was of absolutely no use.  In the manual you go from click one to click two - there is absolutely nothing about what to do when click one doesn't sodding work.

"Hmm.  Try Google" they said.

"Wish I'd thought of that" said one-incredibly-fed-up-and-needing-help Programmer, with what might be described as just a soupçon of sarcasm.

I don't know about you, but the longer I search for things on-line the more it seems that the results I find and my original question bear no resemblance to each other whatsoever.  And there's the added bonus of the words that comprise the answers no longer resemble any language I can speak.

However.  I did find the answer.   Something I have written down in two separate files.  It is not as satisfying as finding your inner peace and happiness but it was such a pleasure to silence the voice screaming "WHAT DOES THIS SCHEIßE ACTUALLY MEAN?"

A darkened room beckons.  And perhaps the jacket with the sleeves that can be tied.

Oh and in case anyone thinks I was slacking - it's "occurred" and not "occured".
