Looking Out

Just as I was finishing hanging out the washing a bumblebee settled in the empty plastic peg basket. I had time to fetch my camera before it took off over the top. I was pleased to get a shot of it as it is a garden bumblebee, Bombus hortorum. They fly here in February after the large numbers of B. terrestrus have tailed off. They are very busy and rarely stop for more than a couple of seconds, making them difficult to pin down. I don’t know why it was attracted to the white plastic.

I like the way it is hanging by its two front feet. Note the spikes on its front legs.
