The Emperor and his Empress

A full set of hinamatsuri dolls are displayed on platforms covered with red cloth.  Often made up of seven tiers, they show the Emperor and Empress, their attendants, courtiers and musicians in traditional dress.

Each tier displays a separate group and whilst the placement order of the dolls from left to right can vary, the order of dolls on each tier is always the same. I'm guessing its arranged in order of importance as yesterday's photo of the ox-drawn cart was from the seventh tier, which is the very bottom of the display.

So here is the top tier... and very fancy they are too!
