Looking Again 2

So I set off in search of another of the Eden Benchmarks or Sculptures for Sitting.

Kirkby Stephen is not far from away, but we had never been down to the river where this is situated. It took a bit of finding along muddy tracks, but fighting our way through undergrowth, we eventually came to . . . Passage.

This was designed to be evocative of the river's passage through the gorge under Stenkrith Bridge, not far from Kirkby Stephen. At first glance it just looks like a lump of stone, but on closer inspection you realise that it has been finely carved to resemble the river bed. The natural blue veining adds to the effect.

How comfortable this would be for sitting and contemplating the river is questionable. The area is now very overgrown. It looks sadly a little neglected, but perhaps that was how it was meant to be. It has certainly weathered into its surroundings over the ten or more years since it was placed here. And it looks as if it will survive a good number of years to come.
