Cooking Lunch

The weekend hiking/relaxing excursion was to the village of El Carrizal, one of our favorite destinations, as it is in an idyllic location high in the Sierra Norte, and the people are quite friendly and welcoming.
This is the cooktop where all the meals are prepared. The fuel is wood, and they put one long piece in the right end and push it into the fire as needed. On top there are a bubbling pot of beans, a large comal, which is a slightly dish shaped "griddle" for cooking fresh handmade tortillas, a pan of simmering coffee and another of hot chocolate. They made eggs to order, either fried or scrambled, and spooned the eggs, beans, and Mexican style rice into a bowl, tortillas on the side. Delicious!!!
After this lunch some of our group took a nap instead of hiking!
