Hillfort Hug

Today I took part in the third Old Oswestry Hillfort Hug.

The hillfort is an important Iron Age monument as well as an iconic part of Oswestry's landscape. Shropshire County Council have backed plans to build an estate of 116 houses below it although local people and archaeologists have been against the development.

The Hillfort Hug is to show the feelings of people that oppose the plans. There was a seminar yesterday then today people gathered on the hillfort. We made a heart shape at the bottom then walked up and stood around the top where over 1000 hearts had been made into bunting. Local people had written their thoughts about the fort on the hearts.

It was bitterly cold with a biting wind with snow and rain showers but still a lot of people turned up and I was pleased to see the town's mayor there too. The blip is of people waiting in the snow to wave their hearts and posters while making the heart shape. The man with the dog is my friend T.
