Recycle today for a better tomorrow!

Japan takes recycling VERY seriously. In some places they have 10 different types. Where I live they have five. This sign shows which type of rubbish is collected and when. Fortunately the rubbish sign is colour coded to match the different types of rubbish bags you must use!

Monday & Friday is combustible rubbish called Nama gomi. Thursday is recyclable plastics, whilst PET bottles, glass and cans are collected alternate weeks on Monday and Wednesdays. Add to that cardboard, paper & drinks cartons have their own day as does non- burnable rubbish... That's a LOT of rubbish! Its also a lot of storage!! All of this means that putting out the rubbish is almost a daily task, and they have central collection points. woe betide you if you just put it outside your building and wheely bins are a no-no... Not sure how true the quote is below but it certainly makes me feel better when I'm wrestling with the different bags and confuse what goes where!.
