The bull jumping day
In the morning we heard of a bull jumping ceremony that was to happen near Dimeka market. We were absolutely thrilled about this new and we felt very lucky for the chance given, because a trip around Omo valley without a bull jumping ceremony is like you miss half of the interest.
We drove to Dimeka, had coffee, did some shopping and met some of the ceremony masters the Bana tribe. Then we went at a dried river shore and the ceremony began...
We all fell madly in love with the chief of the Bana tribe, in fact all of them were amazigly handsome. In my mind i saw them do the catwalk.
Anyway, the tribe women arrived at the point to be beaten with sticks in their own will. There was blood, but that is the tradition, the women prove in that way that they are strong and capable of having families and raise children. Then the chief saw us and gave the command: we should get painted on the face because we were watching in a very active way, so we were very important for the ceremony. After we had been painted, we sat next to the chief, had coffee from the same dried pumkin mug.
The ceremony lasted almost four hours, the young boy grew up, he managed to walk seven or eight times on the backs of a lot of bulls...
We said goodbye to the chief and drove to Jinka. That night we slept on a bed and all of us dreamt of the chief...
