Flower Friday . . .Flowering Gum

Todays walk had to go past a small group of flowering gum trees so I could get a blip.  I don't think I've really seen flowering gums before.  They are very interesting with both flowers and gum nuts.  The bees were enjoying the flowers.  The cicadas were singing very loudly.  We saw one other couple walking their dog.
We had gentle rain today and it seems the Christchurch fire on the Port Hills is contained.  My son in laws employer has lost his home.  I think I heard his wife talking on the radio.  She was being extremely calm and philosophical about the situation.
