Hot and Dry

The leader of the hiking program was on a bike trip this week, so David, I, and another regular hiker led the Tuesday and Friday hikes. Two are scheduled each week, both to the same place, in order to accommodate the large number of people who like to participate during this time of year.
There were also two options - difficult, which was to the top of the mountain that is in the background, and easy, which began in the town of Teotitlán and meandered through dusty trails around a reservoir. This is the dry season, and it has not rained in months, resulting in landscapes that are various shades of brown.
After the hike we hopped back into the vans and went to the town of Tule, where we enjoyed cold beers, lunch, and nieve (similar to sorbet). Nieves are so cold if you eat too fast you'll get that instant ice cream headache!  Tule is the location of the giant tree in Tuesday's blip.
