Sunbeams

An enjoyable morning

This morning I attended a lecture on The Euston Road School of Art.  This group of artists, including Graham Bell, Victor Pasmore, Lawrence Gowing, Rodrigo Moyniham, Claude Rogers and Sir William Coldstream, took over 314/316 Euston Road, London, between 1937 and 1939.  They reacted against the avant-garde movement and produced realist paintings, many of them portraits, street scenes, landscapes etc.  When WWII came most of them joined up or worked as war artists except for Victor Pasmore who was imprisoned for being a conscientious objector.

I really enjoyed their style, some of it reminiscent of Cezanne and his techniques.
