Life through the lens...

The Greenway

Had a walk from Cleckheaton to Low Moor and back, along part of the Greenway I haven't done before.
It was cloudy but quite warm, and busy because of the Half Term Holiday.
Mainly dog walkers ,cyclists, and children, with just a few walkers like myself.
Lots of catkins but no spring flowers.
Near Low Moor I came across a plaque, unveiled last year, to mark the centenary of the explosion at the munitions factory in 1916, which claimed 40 lives and 100 injured. Quite moving to read all the names of those who died, including firemen and a policeman who tried to put the fire out.  see here

The only sign that this was once a busy railway, was a pile of old sleepers at the side of the path. Now partly overgrown.

The last passenger train travelled from Bradford to Cleckheaton in June 1965, and the journey took 11 mins.
Today the bus takes more than twice as long,
Such a pity more than 30% of the railways route miles were closed in the 1960's. We could do with them now!
However to look on the bright side, a new station has been built at Low Moor, and will be opened later this year.
Unfortunately there won't be any trains to Cleckheaton though.

Thank you so much for all your kind comments stars and hearts for my horse yesterday. I didn't expect it to reach the popular pages, and it was a lovely surprise.
