Resolutions

I think as Whitey has got older (and he's a grand old age for a squirrel) he's gotten more used to me - but there was definitely a moment today when i stepped into his comfort zone and he was suddenly very alert.

Two long standing problems drew to a close today;
Firstly Mrs IttH's car has officially become a write off. Contaminated fuel has done so much damage that at three years old its not a viable repair. We have every receipt for fuel and they all say diesel - but the garage and assessor both say that the damage was caused by diesel contaminated by petrol. The insurance company, who I've no qualms in naming (Quote me Happy) have been abysmal - 5 weeks to instruct an independant engineer (who came out within 24hrs) and the first two claims handlers they gave us only worked hours when the switchboard was closed. They also wanted to triple the excess because we got the car recovered to the main dealer it came from rather than one of their choice - at 9pm at night, hmphhh.
Fortunately through all this the dealer (Hadwins) has been amazing, supplying Mrs IttH with a range of courtesy cars and sympathy - whilst we'll be changing insurer we'll almost certainly be purchasing the replacement from Hadwins.

A longer standing and more contentious issue, involving the Association of which I'm Chair has also reached a resolution today - but its been a far more bruising and damaging problem and its a resolution that shouldn't have been necessary - the investigation of deliberate, malicious complaints has uncovered levels of dishonest, unprofessional and actually illegal behaviour that has saddened everyone involved in the process. It will take a big collective effort to rebuild what was shaping into a really productive positive team, to undo the deliberate upset and distress that has been caused. Its been a salutary lesson in how unchallenged unacceptable behaviour can come to be considered the norm - but also a strong reminder that bullies are never right.
