The Late King

Thailand 2017, Day 35
More Phuketian street art - this time of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej  who died in October, and was at the time of his death, the world's longest serving head of state, having been king for over 70 years. This painting on the wall of a building shows him in his various loves as he was a talented painter, musician, photographer and musician.
The King was genuinely greatly loved and revered by the Thai people and all public buildings such as schools, hospitals, post offices etc are currently adorned with black and white ribbons in his honour, but so too are the houses of many ordinary people, and also shops and garages etc.
We wandered around the lovely old town today, and also around the market. We always try to visit the market in any large foreign  town that we visit, as they are always fascinating. It's amazing to see the fruit and vegetables that we never see here, and also the fish and meat. Sometimes the areas around the fish and meat sections may not be for those of a more squeamish disposition. I decided not to show you a meat counter - you may be happier with this flower lady.
