Giant Sequoia

The Giant Sequoia came to Europe in 1853, brought to Perthshire by by a Scot who brought over a small quantity of seeds from California. Later in 1853 an Englishman acting for a nursery in England brought over a much larger batch of seeds, from this batch seeds were distributed throughout Europe.

The tallest specimen in Britain in southwest Scotland reached a height of 56.4 metres in 150 years. I don't even reach 2 metres, but then I am not 150 years old.

The specimen in the photograph is to be found in the garden of Crathes Castle. As I have posted numerous photographs of the castle already I thought a tree might make a variation. There are also Giant Sequoia to be found in Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen.

Their days in Britain may be numbered however, they are not native to this country, and under immigration regulations may be expelled back to their country of origin, even though they may have resided here legally for quite a lengthy period, and may even have seedlings germinated in the UK.

I am way behind with Blips, and will attempt to catch up over the next few days
