Sgwarnog: In the Field

Toss

I have the kids for the weekend and there were no clashes with their various activities so the Saturday standby of a trip out to the football ensued.

Peterborough United were the team in town today, just a few points back in the table and chasing at the heels of the play-off places which Bradford have occupied comfortably since the second week of the season. As recounted here many times over the past few months, City have lost the fewest games of any team in League One, but have drawn the most of any team in the entire Football League and indeed as far down the non-league pyramid as I could be bothered to check. The last three home games had ended 2-2 so really today, as most days, we were just hoping for a win.

It was a nervous match to watch, but the Bantams managed to bundle the ball in mid-way through the first half to take the lead. They had the better chances throughout the game but the Posh threatened at times so until the final whistle there was no certainty about the outcome of the game, but 1-0 it finished.

With Sheffield United looking near-certain champions the second automatic promotion spot remains a possibility with early pace setters Scunthorpe United stumbling of late. It's Fleetwood Town that have gone on a fine run to take that spot for the moment though and with Bolton, Millwall and Southend all in the mix it should be a gripping final couple of months of the season.

Today's image features the pre-match toss with Bradford's captain, Romain Vincelot making it clear that he'd keep the usual thank you. It does make us all a bit grumpy when the visitors win the toss and insist on turning everything around, but no such ill omens today.
