That's Life!

Off A Duck's Back . . .

It would be good to report that we've had a cloudburst today and the roads and gardens are running with water, but I'd be lying. The streams of water saturating our garden duck (bigger image) this parched afternoon are from the hose - our lawn is drier than the Kalahari, there's no cloud in sight, and the weather forecast predicts sun, sun and more sun over this September long weekend.

It's Labour Day on Monday, would you believe! The holiday has been moved as far as possible from May Day, so it will no longer be recognised as a celebration of hard-fought workplace rights, social justice and equality - because that means unions and socialism, both of which are now almost swear words in contemporary North America.

Now the message from employers is: "Here's a day off. Be thankful. Now quit moaning and get back to work" (assuming your job hasn't already been shipped off to a country whose government knows how to handle those pesky unionists and the word 'slavery' isn't quite so loaded . . .)

But corporate profits are recovering very nicely, thank you . . . and perhaps it'll rain on Tuesday . . .
