Rug weaver

This is master weaver Antonio, with some of his wonderful wool rugs. He dyes all his wool with natural dyes such as indigo, cochinilla, and flowers similar to marigolds that produce yellow. He weaves many traditional patterns that have history and significance to the Zapotec people, but he has also expanded his designing to abstracts like the one he is holding. All the purples, pinks, and reds have cochinilla, which is a red dye derived from a bug, as their base.
