Now, as I see it......

Primulas

The lane at the side of our house only goes up to one other house before petering out to a footpath, and neither the council nor the farmer who owns the field on the other side of the lane ever maintain it so my neighbour and I tend to do it between us, cutting back the field hedge and mowing the strip of grass next to our fence. At the top of the lane outside the neighbour's house some primulas have self-seeded in the grass and are gradually spreading down the lane, so we make sure they are not mown or cut back until they have died down naturally. I rather like the way this one had squeezed into the space between the sign and the water main cover.
