dad and i went down to ashington to do the final round of grocery shopping ('and don't forget the turkey!') today. heart-stopping moment in supermarket #1 when there was a vast space where turkeys should have been, but we got one in supermarket #2 thankfully. military operation getting it all in the fridge and cupboards when we got back tho - the turkey sat in a large plastic box in the shed defrosting quietly as there was nowhere else to put it (trust me, it was cold enough that it wasn't in any danger of going off - mind you, one year we did that and it was so cold it wasn't totally defrosted by xmas morning...).
