Misty & Muddy

I lead a walk that I'd trialed with Peter a few weeks ago, this time for Herts Guides Walking Team, from the Bridgewater Monument to the Ivinghoe Beacon, Steps Hill, Pitstone Hill and Albery Nowers.

The blip shows a few walkers slipping and sliding down from the beacon. Some got a lot closer to the mud than others but all enjoyed it! Views were non existent in the mist but we admired the deer running across in front of us a couple of times and marvelled at the noisy skylarks. It was longer than most of our social walks and at the far Western end of the County, attracted some different people. I was very pleased to have two newbies join us, both Senior Section leaders, one of whom is keen to do the hillwalking training. It would be a very good hit rate indeed if I can get one more walking leader per social walk... unlikely but I can try :-)

The three of us from Hertford had dinner afterwards at The George in Watton, meeting up with some other Scout leaders and a very friendly couple new to the District who happen to both be Mountain Leaders and both be qualified in the Scouting and Girlguiding Hillwalking schemes. They're very keen to get involved locally and we got some dates in the diary. Exciting!
