If you can't beat them...

Amaryllis Bud

Yes I know it is really a Hippeastrum but I have known it as Amaryllis all my life and the RHS give the common name as Amaryllis.  It is a while since this flowered, I think it has been having a well deserved rest.  It belonged to my late mother and she died nearly 31 years ago and it had flowered a few times before that (and since obviously).

Hippeastrum is a genus of south African origin with about 90 species and over 600 cultivars.   All are perennial herbaceous bulbs.  The name means Knights star Lily but why it is so called is unknown.
