On Some Days

History

I think a lot of New Zealanders would be surprised to know how much European history happened around Preservation Inlet where we are exploring.  Today we went ashore at Kisbee Bay to see the site of Cromarty Township.  It was started in the 1880's to serve the gold miners and loggers of the area.  Sawn timber was shipped to Dunedin.  This is a close up of a boiler used in the saw mill.  It lies in the bush and to me seemed like something from an alien planet.  It is a testament to those hardy souls who tried to make a living here.
