Newcastle Downunder

I found one!!!

This blip is for Freespiral.  After much hunting I have eventually found a Holy Well.  How the BVM got there was a miracle I must say.  In actual fact it is Johnny's well and this is what the plaque says about it:

"Johnny's Well" was not a well in the accepted sense but was a spring.  Also we cannot be sure of the spelling, as the name has been passed down by word of mouth only.  Finally, we do not know the identity of Johnny as references go well back in time.  Indications are that Johnny was very likely an Aborigine."

[You might be thinking now that the plaque has been not been very helpful at all but wait, read on.....]

"What we do know is that the spring gave up beautiful clean water and had extraordinary keeping qualities.  It kept much longer in ship's tanks than water from other sources.  Ships from all over the world refilled here.  American Whalers were frequent visitors."

It then goes on to describe the last users and how this structure came to be at Soldier's Point.  It is a reconstruction done in conjunction with a number of authorities.  Well, well, well.
