Bullet LaVolta Gimme Danger

Bullet LaVolta 'Gimme Danger' (Glitterhouse Records, 1990)

I thought this was a LP but it's an EP. I have two Bullet LaVolta records, their debut on Taang!, and this. Both were acquired from Jon's quite literally mouldy collection.

I remember Bullet LaVolta being mentioned in the same breath as the far superior Naked Raygun and there are certain similarities in their sounds. The record sums up 1990 quite well, it's not quite an 80s record and it's not a 90s record, it's not punk, hardcore or metal, but equally it's not a crossover record. I suppose it's proto grunge.

The studio side of 'Gimme Danger' makes me think of Jane's Addiction jamming Guns 'n Roses or a non funky Faith no More with Naked Raygun's rigid rhythm section. Side two is live and reveals some great musicianship but not so great songs, particularly when the singer tries to do an Eddie Vedder.

Unremarkable.

Peace
