Barbondale

First trip out with the Kendal U3A Tuesday walking group. A very cold and windy day with frequent hail showers, some heavy. We did a 9 mile circular walk starting from Barbon heading up Barbondale, over Low Barbon Fell and back via a section of the Andy Goldsworthy Walk. Andy Goldsworthy is an acclaimed artist and was commissioned by the local council as part of the Millennium Project. The art installation now comprises more than one hundred sheep folds across the county and each one is unique. They are not marked and are so discreet that I walked past them without noticing until someone pointed them out. All in all this is probably the largest art installation in the world. We walked past Drove Stones Folds along Fellfoot Road neat Casterton which comprised 16 small folds each containing a large bolder. I have to say that I was rather underwhelmed.
