Painting the Roof

The Husband - who subscribes to the *I'm not paying anyone to do what I can do myself* theory of home upkeep and repair - finally decided that he personally was never going to give our roof a badly needed coat of paint - and that a solid roof would be a good thing to have over our heads. So he suddenly hired someone whose ad he found in the local newspaper. For a moment we wondered if it would turn out to be a scam and that after pretending to wash the roof for a couple of hours and taking our downpayment the fellow would never come back. But no! The fellow is actually painting our roof. It's a metal roof - a roof that The Husband put on himself when we moved in here in 1981 - and it has needed a coat of paint for years. Today - after spending yesterday cleaning it - more thoroughly than he had on Monday - to The Husband's satisfaction - they applied a rust colored primer coat. Tomorrow it will be painted silver.

So here's a photo - heavily fartnarkled, as you can tell - showing a glimpse of the rusty colored primer on the roof. The only part of the roof that is being done is the oldest part. The Husband balked at the price of doing the entire roof - including the roof of the addition that we put on in 2005 - so it's just the main roof on the central part of the house - the original "two over two" farmhouse, and the porch roof in the front - that's being painted. In 2005 we added a new downstairs bedroom over a garage on one end of the house, and a new kitchen off the back. It's important to make your house bigger after the children leave. Right? Right.

Anyhoo. Here's a photo I shot with my phone as we returned from our walk at about 1:00 PM to find that the painter had finished and gone away for the rest of the day.
