Constructing Identity

Today at the Portland Art Museum Kendall and I were eager to view Constructing Identity, featuring works in a variety of mediums by more than 80 African-American artists "exploring race and identity in a so-called post-racial society."  The collection and the writing alongside each piece makes a powerful statement. In the extra Kendall enjoys one of the pieces in the show. An unexpected pleasure was an exhibit of Auguste Rodin, featuring 52 bronzes in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the artist’s death (1840-1917). "Auguste Rodin revolutionized the art of sculpture. While his works always remained faithful to nature, he departed from traditional practice in seeking to reveal the creative process.” I am always moved by his work. His touch gave liveliness to human form in a manner singular to him.
