Owaka

It certainly was a 'wild' performance when our students performed their haka - and I love the shadows.

Today has been special in a number of ways.

Firstly it is Blaze's birthday.  He died at 24, but he would have been 28 today.

Secondly, for work reasons, I got to drive past his cross twice today (going and returning) so I sort of got to wish him a happy birthday (twice).

Thirdly our students did us proud.  Today a group of students and staff travelled down to Owaka to 'support' our Deputy Principal who was 'welcomed' onto The Catlins Area School site.  She has been appointed as their new principal and today was the day we officially 'handed her over' into their care.   We are going to miss her at our school enormously so as we were finishing our visit, the 22 students we had taken with us performed an impromptu haka to honour her.  We have our own personal school haka and it gives me goosebumps every time our students perform it.

An exhausting day, with 10 hours of travelling in it, but a very satisfying one.
