Noorilim

Noorilim, built in 1879 is the finest example of Italiante architecture in rural Victoria, Australia. Designed by James Gall for former member of parliament William Winter-Irving it is story book gorgeous. The grounds are majestic and include a lily covered ornamental lake, formal rose and Italian gardens and lush, rolling lawns where peacocks and all manner of bird life roam.
When this property was purchased by friends of ours in the 1970's it was derelict, with hay bails stored int the front foyer and disintegrating staircases.  These friends spend 25 years faithfully restoring this magnificent property to its former glory. They sold it fifteen years ago and the new owners have remained true to the original dream.
Classified by the National Trust it is now open to the public.
Today (taking some time out) we visited Noorilim and spent several hours afterwards drinking in 7 acres of gardens which included enormous exotic and native trees, many of which were 130 years old.
This was quite breathtaking day. I just had to add some extras. Enjoy.
I know 130 years is not old for a building in most other parts of the world, but hey! We are a young country.
