A Writer's Life

The aftermath

I left work early on Tuesday. My jaw had created a huge headache. So I went home, opened the tv, took something for the pain, and watch the provincial elections. There were good things happening: for the first time, we have a woman as prime minister. A wonderful woman who is head of another party was elected. The old prime minister wasn't reelected (yippie!) but it wasn't the landslide we had hoped for. And then, when the new prime minister was doing her victory speech, a man, attempting to get to the prime minister, shot two men, one to death, and started a fire. We don't have these issues in Québec. Even in Canada. But last night, violence happened. The prime minister was amazing: to avoid people trampling one another in a panic, she came back to the stage, said a few words, and then she left.

You see, every gain that was made yesterday was lessen. It's really, really sad.
