Two months ago goateebooknerd alerted me to an intriguing small corner of London I didn't know: Trinity Buoy Wharf, where buoys and lighting for lighthouses were trialled and developed and Michael Faraday had a workshop, next to London's only lighthouse.

It's now a quirky arts space. We got there from the south, via the Millennium Dome (not quite so tacky when the sun is shining) and the cable car with brilliant views over the Thames Barrier, City Airport, Canary Wharf, the occasional tall-masted yacht looping its way along the river and the seemingly endless building sites of this part of London.

A thoroughly good day out.
