Durnstein Castle and Melk Abbey View

"He is truly wise who has travelled far and knows the ways of the world. He who has travelled can tell what spirit governs the men he meets"
- Viking Saying

When we wook up this morning our longship was under Durnstein Castle (see extra) and we got off for a walk around this charming Austrian village to enjoy the sunshine and sights. The Castle was finished in 1145 and housed Richard The Lionhart as prisoner 1192-3 until a ransom was paid.

We then set off late morning for a cruise along the Danube, taking in some wonderful scenery, before docking at Melk underneath the Abbey. It dates from the 11th century but most of the current building was built about 1700c. It contains 80,000 medieval manuscripts. The blipfoto shows the view from it over the town of which we enjoyed a walk around an a drink in a local bar whilst enjoying the evening sun.
