April Fairy Clocks!!

“Generations of children have helped make dandelions one of Britain's most common weeds. Blowing the delicate and beautiful seed heads to 'tell the time' is a very effective method of dispersal… Dandelions haven't always been troublesome weeds. In Victorian times they were cultivated with care and eaten by the wealthy in sandwiches and salads. Even today the leaves are used as cure-alls and the flowers made into wine.” http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/life/Taraxacum

Whilst out running a few errands this morning, I came across a host of golden Dandelions enjoying the sunshine. I recently read an appeal for people not to cut down or spray their Dandelions as they provide an important source of food for bees at this time of year. So these Fairy Clocks were a welcome sight. However, on the way back home, I passed the same area of parkland, only to discover that council workers had just been and mowed the whole lot down! What a shame…

Having read the following link, I discovered that not only are Dandelions important for bees, they’re also pretty good providers for us humans! Interesting reading if you’re interested: https://sunwarrior.com/healthhub/11-health-benefits-of-dandelion-leaves-and-dandelion-root
