Blossoms and Butterfield

From the far side of the croquet lawn the exquisite proportions of Butterfield's group of buildings is apparent in the morning sun. Britain's smallest cathedral and its college sit so neatly on the sculpted terraces of the site, not apparently tiny when you're in among them but perfectly nestled beside the woods that have grown up in the grounds.

Our time there this Holy Week is now over; other singers will arrive and provide the music for the main celebrations of the Triduum and Easter. But I love the small-scale Evensong, the contemplative Complines of our time there - and besides, there is music to be made in our own church.
