A Tale of Three Doggies

On Tuesday April 11th this dog (Casey "Chalupa") and the one in the extra (Mickey ~ nee Chuck) found their forever homes.  Casey was rescued from a dump in Mexico by a group called Humanitourism.  They generally do spay/neutering and help where they can but they aren't set up for rescuing dogs.  But this poor little girl was in terrible shape with a litter of dead/dying puppies and they knew she wouldn't survive.  So, skipping over a lot of details, she made her way to Colorado and has been adopted by my neighbor.  She is doing amazingly well adjusting to her new life already.  She's very sweet and loves attention and her sweet sister, Penny (Piper's BFF), is teaching her the ropes.

A few weeks before I went to visit my sister, her sweet little dog died unexpectedly.  He was her best buddy and all the way home we were talking about her getting another dog.  She didn't waste any time once we got home and visited the Longmont Humane Society the next day.  Mickey had just arrived from a high-kill shelter in Texas a few days before.  He is a very timid, submissive boy who had probably been abused but he is very sweet and affectionate and seemed a perfect match.

And....it is 5 years ago today since we brought our wonderful Piper home from the Secondhand Hounds rescue in Minneapolis. They estimated her to be about a year old so we decided that April 15th (the day she started her new life with us) would be her birthday.  So, a very Happy 6th Birthday to Miss Piper!  I feel bad now that I didn't include her picture too...maybe I'll add one later.

Hooray for rescue dogs!!
