World of trees

LOVELY AS A TREE

Joyce Kilmer said it.
"Only God can make a tree" —
such variety.

Each with its timing
at its own moment greening
each leaf heaven-sent.

Towering over us
or bonsai in a small pot —
miraculous trees.

Every breath we take
oxygen breathed out by trees
sustains our living.

Sun-fed chlorophyll
and blood-red hemoglobin
one atom apart.

Blest are they who plant
trees for next generations —
gifts of fruit, shade, fuel.

Fractal sweet bouquets
twig, leaf, blossom, berry, seed  —
thank you, God, for trees.
