Heron at Killingworth Lake

I took my camera for a walk and was delighted to come across this heron by the side of a local lake. I've never seen a heron there before - plenty of swans, ducks and coots though. Shortly after I took the main photo it took off (see first extra) and disappeared into the reeds, so presumably that's where the nest is.

(Best viewed large.)

The second extra shows Mr Coot bringing more nesting materials to Mrs Coot, no doubt to help her to keep the eggs warm. I should have used a faster shutter speed for that shot but it's not too bad. I thought his actions were rather cute (?coot...?!!). (Groan.)

I reckon these should qualify for Wild Wednesday, hosted by Cailleach.
