Selfies from the Brink

Take Me To The River

Some stories are almost unbearable to listen to. Imagine having to live them.
Dona Isadora's eyes have seen so many things that it seems as if, at some point, her eyes couldn't take it anymore and retreated into her hardened skull.
She tells us that her hands have washed the blood off from so many wounds that her skin has lost touch with the very flesh it covers.
But she still stands tall, grandmother to the four children she raises. She shoulders her fate without questioning it while despairing over the destiny of her little ones.

The stories behind these families we meet along the highway are all full of tragedy, loss, and grief. But in almost all of them we find someone (normally a woman) so much bigger than life itself, a good spirit that hovers over these children protecting them from harm as well as she can.

Comfort in the River.
